Maryknoll resident, Norma Cowper, OAM will be one of about 20 torch bearers to carry Legacy Centenary Torch today (6 July 2023) as it makes its way on the 7km Port Macquarie leg of its journey from the marina through Port Macquarie to the cenotaph at the Town Square.

Norma, who was awarded an OAM in the Australia Day Awards in 2022 in recognition of her service of the community including her work with the ex-services and being a member of the Hastings Torchbearers, is proud and excited to have this honour.

The Legacy Centenary Torch began its six-month journey on ANZAC Day (25 April 2023) in Pozieres, France. It then travelled to London, England (the only Legacy club outside Australia) before arriving in Australia where it will visit all 44 Australian Legacy clubs.

The Relay will travel over 50,000 km, through 100 stops, carried by around 1,500 torch bearers and raise funds for Legacy along the way.

In responding to the needs of families of veterans for 100 years, Legacy, through its network of Legacy Clubs throughout Australia, is the only veteran service organisation in Australia dedicated solely to the care and support of our veterans’ families. Legacy supports around 40,000 people.
