Senior Wellbeing Forum a big hit in the local community
The latest Wellbeing Forums held for St Agnes’ Care & Lifestyle (SACAL) at Lourdes (9 November) & St Agnes’ Village (10 November) saw a strong attendance from our local community.
The Wellbeing Forums were an opportunity for attendees to learn from industry experts about senior wellbeing. The guest speakers commenced with Dietician Leesa Roach speaking about the importance of nutrition for people as they age. Following this was Home Care Client Relationship Officer, Shelly Baldry who explained how Home Care services can help people live at home for longer. Lawyer Justin Levido spoke about the importance of managing Legal Affairs such as Power of Attorney, Enduring Guardianship and Wills. The presentations concluded with U3A representative Karen Roberts speaking about the courses available and the value of being part of a learning community as we age.
There were also display stalls which offered more information and gave attendees the chance to talk about their personal situation with people from Pastoral Care, U3A, Residential Care, Home Care, Village Sales, and volunteering opportunities within SACAL.
Another important aspect of the forum was the opportunity for attendees to book in for a free one-hour ‘Be Connected’ session with Senior Digital Mentor, Craig Lawson. ‘Be Connected’ is an Australian Government initiative to increase the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians using digital technology. After the event, attendees were invited to participate in a bus trip around the villages and offered to take a guided tour of a villa with Client Relationship Officer – Village Sales, Sue Reid.
“There were good handouts, useful information and I am happy we had attended the forum”, said an attendee.
